Jim started galloping horses when he was 11 years old.  He took out his trainer’s license at the age of 16.  Jim began his career at Finger Lakes Race Track and moved his operation to Saratoga and Belmont in 1990.

Jim is a very approachable and recognizable trainer.  He has always had comments on his famous name so he decided he might as well have some fun with it.  All of his horses train with saddle pads with the logo 007 on them.  You will see the 007 signs on his private 40 Stall barn on Gridley Street in Saratoga Springs, NY.   You cannot miss the big blue and white air ride 12 horse van that ships most of Jim’s race horses around the country and to Canada.  The van is camera equipped.

Jim has had much success.  Among his success, Devious Course won the Nashua and the Cigar Mile.  In 1995, he trained L’Carriere to finish second in the Breeders Cup Classic behind Cigar.  L’Carriere went on to the Dubai World Cup and finished third in the Inaugural Dubai World Cup.  In 1996, Will’s Way won the Travers Stake at Saratoga and came back in 1997 to win the Whitney Handicap.  Behrens won the Gulfstream Park Handicap twice, Oaklawn Handicap, Suburban, and Dwyer.  Behrens ran second in the Travers and in the Whitney Handicap.  Behrens went to Dubai to run in the Dubai World cup in 1998 and in 2000 when he ran second to Dubai Millennium.   He won the Turf Classic Invitational and the Man o’ War with Val’s Prince.  Jim guided Mongoose to win the Donn Handicap and Buddha to win the Wood Memorial.

Jim was named New York Trainer of the Year 5 times.  He trained New York Horse of the Year Mr. Groush.  Mr. Groush was born and raised on Jim’s farm Song Hill Farm. Please visit the Stakes Page for a complete list.

One of Jim’s greatest accomplishments is retaining his long-time employees and his long-time clientele.  Jim is very appreciative to his clients for the great horses that they have entrusted in him.

Jim is married to Tina Marie and they have two sons, Kevin and Ryan.  In addition to the racing stable, Jim and Tina have 100 acre farm named Song Hill Thoroughbreds LLC in the town of Stillwater, NY.  This farm compliments the racing stable.  They have been breeding horses for over 20 years.  They moved their operation to Stillwater in 2005.  Please visit the website songhillthoroughbreds.com

Tina is Jim’s wife.  She owns and breeds a few horses, some in partnership.  She is seen quite regularly on Saratoga backside with her camera taking pictures of the horses.  She sends these photos to the owners so they can see their horses training.  Tina manages the business end of H. James Bond Racing Stable Inc. and manages Song Hill Thoroughbreds LLC.  Song Hill Thoroughbreds is a 100 acre farm located less than 20 minutes from Saratoga Race Course and Jim’s private barn.  Some race horses are switched to Song Hill for a rest at different times.  There is an 80 foot covered eurociser to complete the exercise program that Jim designs for each horse that is at Song Hill Thoroughbreds.  We also have mares and foals at Song Hill.  All barns are camera equipped as well as the eurociser and the paddocks to ensure safety for all.  Jim and Tina are residents at Song Hill as well so they are on premise most of the time each day

Kevin was born into a horse racing family.  He has been around a farm and horses his entire life.  He would travel with his family changing schools from New York to Florida.  Kevin did this until high school where he chose to attend John Carroll High School in Florida.   He graduated from John Carroll High School in 2005.  He is also a graduate of Lynn University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management.  Kevin worked every summer and every break from school with the race horses.  Upon his college graduation in 2009, Kevin came to work for the racing stable full time as an Assistant Trainer.  Kevin travels internationally for H. James Bond Racing Stable.   Kevin has a home in Delray Beach, Florida and manages the Florida division in the winter racing months.  In the summer, Kevin is with the main division in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Ryan was also born into this horse racing family.  He is 3 years younger than his brother, Kevin.  He also has always been around a thoroughbred farm and race horses his entire life.  Ryan would tag along with Kevin every summer and vacations from school to work at the racing barn.  Ryan learned to ride horses at a very young age and is a natural.  Ryan moved with the family from place to place every year changing schools to follow the race horses and their schedule.  Ryan attended John Carroll High School in Florida and Ryan is a 2009 graduate from Martin County High School.  Ryan is also a 2013 graduate from Florida Atlantic School with a degree in Finance.  Upon Ryan’s college graduation, Ryan has joined the family business full time.  Ryan also has traveled internationally for the racing operation.  Ryan brings a new dimension to the business and we are very lucky to have him join the team as an Assistant Trainer.  Ryan has a home in Delray Beach, Florida and he also manages the Florida division.  In the summer, Ryan will be with the main division in Saratoga Springs, NY.
